a. Note:   History of Noble County, Ohio - 1887, L. H. Watkins & Co., page 398 Marion Township Richard D. Cleary was born in 1843. He married Mary A. Franklin in 1867; children: Joseph F., William D., and Edward B. His wife, a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, died in 1872. In 1877 Mr. Cleary married Caroline Cox, of this county, and their children are Annie, Alice, and Richard D. Mr. Cleary is an honorable, prosperous and successful farmer, as was also his father above mentioned
  The Noble County Leader Wendsday, June 25, 1919 Mrs Richard Cleary aged seventy-five years, a widely known resident of near Whigville, died at her home last Thursday midnight following a prolonged illness from cancer. She is survived by her husband and a number of children. The funeral was held Saturday and interment made in the Mt. Ephraim cemetery.

  Miss Carrie Cleary, of Kansas City, Mo, Ansel Cleary, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Frank Yatesman and wife and Miss Mary Cleary, of San Antonio, Texas, were recently called to near Whigville by the critical illness of their mother, Mrs. John Cleary.
  The Republican Journal Wendsday, June 25, 1919 Cleary Mrs. Richard CLeary, ages 75 years, died at her home near Whigville, Thursday, from cancer of the stomach. Funeral services were held from the home, Saturday, conducted by Rev. John Rich, followed by burial in the cemetery at Mt. Ephraim. Undertaker Herlan had charge of the remains. The deceased is survives by her husband, one daughter and one stepsons.

  The Noble County Leader, Caldwell, Oh Wendsday November 19, 1930
  Richard Cleary, aged eighty-seven years, died Tuesday night of last week at his home near Whigville following a long illness of infirmities. He was a son of John and Anna Cleary and his entire life has been lived in the Whigville community and he was widely known and highly esteemed. HE was married twice, both wives being deceased. Surviving him are two sons, William and Frank, of Kansas, one daughter, Mrs Anna Groves, of Mt. Ephraim, who spent the past year in caring for her father at his home, several grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters, Uriah, of near this place, John W, of Zanesville, Mrs Eliza Thompson and Mrs. P. H. Danford, of Sabetha Kansas, and Mrs Maria Taylor, of Alexandria, Ind. Following brief services at the home at 12:30 Friday afternoon, the body was taken to Mt. Ephraim for final services and interment.

Cleary, ages 87 years, whose death occurred last Tuesday at his home near Whigville, were held Friday afternoon from the Methodist church at Mt. Ephraim cemetery. The deceased was the son of the late John and Mary Cleary and a life long resident of the Whigville community. He was twice married, both wives being deceased. Surviving are two sons, William and Frank Cleary of Kansas, one daughter Mrs RomeGroves, of Mt. Ephraim, two brothers, Uriah Cleary of Summerfield and John Cleary of Zanesville, and three sisters Mrs Eliza Thompson and Mrs P. H. Danford _________ Mrs Maria Taylor of Alexandria, Ind., Dr R. H.   The 1910 federal census for Noble Co., Ohio shows his son William and a grandson Harry, age 10, living in his dwelling. Harry is probably William's son -- see Marion Township, Noble Co., Ohio, Supervisor's Dist. No. 14, Enumeration Dist. No. 111, Sheet No. 3 B, Dwelling No. 50s
  The following article appeared in The Caldwell Press, 31 January 1889, Volumn 5, Number 41, Page 5: Dempsy, the six year old son of R. D. Cleary and wife of Freedom, died last week of diptheria. This is the second death caused by this dread disease in that section and fears are felt lest it become general.
