a. Note:   Leonard Graves Edelen was born at Lebanon, Marion Co., Kentucky., February 20, 1839. In 1860 he removed to Boyle County and engaged in farming; in 1868 he located at Big South Fork, in Casey County, where he conducted a large tannery, bu
Note:   t at a severe financial loss, until 1877, when he removed to Lebanon; and in 1881 he located near Alum Springs, in Boyle County where he has since resided. His father, Leonard Edelen, son of Geo. Edelen, was born at Baltimore, Maryland., in June, 1800, and located at Lebanon with his parents in 1804; was a very successful manufacturer and dealer in hats, at which he amassed a comfortable estate; had his residence and business house on the same ground for more than forty years; was for many years a magistrate and a member of the court of claims of Marion County; was by all regarded as an upright man, and died on the day President Lincoln was assassinated, in 1865. His father, a Catholic, settled near Lebanon in 1804. His offspring were Robert, Benjamin, Leonard, James, Lucy (Hamilton), Mrs. Medley, Aletha (Hamilton), and Priscilla. Leonard Edelen married Susan, daughter of William Bruce, born in Virginia in 1799, moved to Lincoln County, Kentucky., in an early day and died December 8, 1856, and their union resulted in the birth of Sarah (McAfee), William B., Catherine (Williams), James H., Lucy (Riley), Leonard G., Robert H. (deceased), and George T. July 17, 1860, Leonard G. Edelen espoused Miss Mary E., daughter of William L. and Julietta (Maxwell) Tarkington, of Boyle County, born March 30, 184, and to them have been born William T. (deceased), Catherine B., Georgia M., James L. (deceased), and Allen S. For the past eleven years Mr. Edelen has been engaged as a commercial traveler as the general southwestern agent of C. Buell & Son, of Waterville, N. Y., having supervision of the territory south of the Ohio River. He is comfortable and pleasantly located on a small farm of well improved and productive land. His surroundings are agreeable and his hospitality generous. He is a member of the Southern Presbyterian Church, also of the K. of H. and a conservative Democrat.   LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF LEN G. EDELEN I, Len G. Edelen, this day revoking all others, made this my last will and testament, as follows:-- FIRST, On account and in consideration of her kind and unflinching loyalty to me, I bequeath to my daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Beard Edelen, my diamond stud. SECOND, On condition that she continue, to the time of my death, a faithful employee of my daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Beard Edelen, I bequeath to Lebanon, Kentucky, I bequeath the sum of Three Hundred Dollars ($300.00). FOURTH, To my son Allen S. Edelen, I bequeath the sum of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.), and in addition thereto a sum equal the total amount of his indebtedness to me, as evidenced by notes, accounts or otherwise. FIFTH, Of course, I will that all my debts and funeral expenses be paid from my estate. SIXTH, The remainder of my estate, I direct to be divided into two equal parts, and I hereby bequeath such parts as follows: (a) The one-half to be equally divided among the children of my deceased daughter, Mrs. Ben Eaton, formerly of Wichita, Kansas. (b) The other half to go to my daughter, Mrs. R. E. Goddard, of Harrodsburg, Kentucky; provided this bequest is not sought to be appropriated in part or as a whole, by parties to whom Mrs. R. E. Goddard may be indebted to-day. In case it is sought by parties to whom Mrs. Goddard is indebted, to appropriate this bequest or any part of same, I direct that such bequest be waived or cancelled; and such half of my remaining estate I will be divided equally among the children of my daughter, Mrs. R. E. Goddard. SEVENTH, In case there be a difference of opinion as to the construction of this will, I direct the matter to be referred for interpretation to Winston W. Wiseman, of Danville, Kentcky, Whose decision in the matter shall be final and conclusive. EIGHTH, I appoint my son, Allen S. Edelen, of Burgin, Kentucky, and my daughter, Mrs. R. E. Goddard, of Harrodsburg, Kentucky as executor and executrix of this will, to serve jointly without bond or inventory. Witness my hand this 24th day of July, A.D. 1922. Len G. Edelen

  STATE OF KENTUCKY BOYLE COUNTY COURT, FEBRUARY TERM, 1927. I, J. B. Nichols, Clerk of the Boyle County Court, do certify that the foregoing last will and testament of Len G. Edelen, deceased, was on this day produced to court, and the same having been duly proven was ordered to be recorded, which is now accordingly done in my said office.
