DEATH OF MRS. EDELEN Mrs. Evelyn Breckenridge Edelen was born November 27th, 1832 and died October 27th, 1914, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. H. Young, in Belton. Rev. M. Custer, Presbyterian pastor at Raymore conducted the funeral service at the family home on the 29th and burial was at the Belton Cemetery.
Miss Evelyn Breckenridge McAfee, daughter of Gen. Robt. B. McAfee was born on the family estate on Salt River, Mercer County, Kentucky, a place that had been settled by her grandfather at the close of the Revolutionary war. She was related to the late Dr. John A. McAfee, of Park College, Parkville. When twenty years of age she was married to the late W. B. Edelen. To them were born four sons and two daughters: James Edelen, Mrs. Chas. Henry Moore, B. Edelen, W. H. Edelen, Mrs. J. H. Young, and Brown Edelen. Of these Mrs. Moore died several years ago. The other children all live in this county except Brown, the youngest, who is in California.
Of illustrious birth, Mrs. Edelen was a lady of intelligence and refinement. She lived in harmony with the best in her environment and made that environment better all her days, which were many here and full of honor.
The 1900 federal census for Cass Co., Missouri shows that she was the mother of eight children, five of whom were still living in 1900. It also shows her granddaughter Bessie Edelen, age 15, born September 1884, born in Missouri, father born in Kentucky, mother born in Missouri, living in her dwelling.
The 1910 federal census for Mount Pleasant Township, Cass Co., Missouri shows that she was a boarder at the residence of Isabel A. Larkins, age 57, and Isabel's father, Jackson W. Larkins, age 81. The census also shows her name as Edelen, Evelyn J. In addition, it shows that she was the mother of 7 children, 5 now living.
  H. B. Edelen, Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was the informant for her death certificate.
