Note: N345 Clara Harter, 88, of Bluffton, died July 20, 2009, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center. Clara was born in Wells County on April 14, 1921 to Clarence and Ola (Hollowell) Chenoweth. She married Charles L. Harter in Bluffton on Aug. 30, 1940; he preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 2007. Clara was raised in Jay and Wells counties and graduated from Bluffton High School in 1939. She was a devoted mother and helped her husband on the family farm for 29 years. She retired in 1983 from Wells Community Hospital where she worked in the laundry department for 13 and a half years. After retirement she enjoyed volunteering at Meadowvale Health and Rehabilitation Center for over 10 years. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Surviving relatives include four sons, Richard J. (Vicki) Harter of Cecil OH, Clarence H. (Bonnie) Harter of Tulsa OK, Byron Keith Harter of Bluffton and Roger L. (Hulda) Harter of Montpelier; three daughters, Linda (Phillip) Gaunt of Anderson, Anna Louise (Ronald) Roach of Warren and Janine Wallace of Muncie; one sister, Edna Kern of Williamsburg NM; 11 grandchildren and several step grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and several step great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Mrs. Harter was also preceded in death by one daughter, Marilyn Harter; four sisters, Helen Bates, Dorothy Stuchul, Hazel Chenoweth and Jane Reusser; and one brother, Charles Chenoweth.
