Note: N371 Fort Wayne IN - Pat L. (Harter) Mertz, 63, passed away on October 22, 2017 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. Born on August 26th, 1954 in Bluffton IN to Carl C. & Maxine (Garton) Harter, she was the second youngest of seven siblings. She grew up in Fort Wayne & graduated from Heritage High School in 1972. She was a lifetime hairdresser & had a passion for singing. She was a dedicated loving wife, mother, aunt, cousin, & friend to anyone who knew her. She was active in her church at Emmanuel Lutheran (Soest) and gave hugs to everyone who smiled her way. She loved her family dearly, and held many holiday gatherings over the years. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons in infancy, Douglas & Kyle Mertz; four siblings, Janice King; Bill Harter; Jack Harter; & Mike Harter, her twin brother; & a nephew, Kent Stevens. Pat is survived by her husband of 39 years, Jim Mertz; daughter, Rachelle Mertz; son, Paul and wife Kelly Mertz; her brother, Robert G. Harter; sister, Betty J. Dellinger; and many nieces & nephews. Interment at Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Soest.
