Note: March 4, 1920 - Jan. 27, 2012 SOUTH BEND - Alice (Elsie) Maeyens, 91, passed away at 4:03 pm on Friday, January 27, 2012, in Healthwin Specialized Care. Alice was born on March 4, 1920, in South Bend, to the late Casper and Mary (Andrysiak) Slisz. On May 14, 1938, in South Bend, Alice married Elmer Maeyens, who passed away in 1981. She was also preceded in death by three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, three brothers and five sisters. Alice is survived by daughters, Patricia Otolski of LaPorte, Shirley (Robert) Williams of Surprise, AZ, Sandra (Kenneth) Minder of South Bend, Debra (Leonard) Smudey of South Bend and Barbara Klempay of Elkhart; son, Terry (Sue) Maeyens of Bristol; 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Alice was a parishioner at St. Adalbert Catholic Church where she was involved in the Altar and Rosary Society. She was an avid reader, loved crocheting and playing cards, and enjoyed playing bingo and doing ceramics. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
