a. Note:   His name was Evert in the Netherlands, both in birth record & marriage record.
  Left Rotterdam, Netherlands on SS Noordam 7 June 1916 and arrived at New York(Ellis Island) 27 Jun 1916.
  Immigrated from the Netherlands to the US in 1916 with wife and Ann. Apparently not real happy in the US, they went back to Holland in 1925, with 6 children, only to return to Moline, Michigan a year later. Condensed from pages 152, 153 booklet by Henry Boersma.
  In 1926 they sail from Netherlands on SS Batavier II to London. They probably took a train to Liverpool where they boarded and departed on the White Star Line ship Megantic 2 July 1926 for Quebec, Canada. Listed on board were Evert, age 37; Johanna, 35; Anna, 9; Hilbert, 8; Minna, 7; Lina, 7; Grietje, 5; Harm, 3. Also on board were Evert Mennega, age 25 and Bruin Mennega, 35, both without wife or kids. Evert & Joanna (6 kids) crossed over to USA at Detroit, Michigan 11 July 1926. (At this time Jo was pregnant with Tina [b. 1 Oct 1926]).
