He used to visit his brother's coffee business at 12th and Catherine Streets with Jean and Sarah, his granddaughter's. His favorite grandchild was Sarah. She was disabled from birth. He lived at 6005 and Rinehart Street in Southwest Philadelphia. He lived on the same street as his son's family. He never remarried. Thomas lived with his step-daughter, Fanny F. Hopkins, until his death a few years after his only son, Thomas Willard Smith.
