Notes
a. Note:   MILITARY SERVICE: Jacob was a Private in the South Carolina Militia. Service began when he was 14 or 15 years of age. He was tending stock for his father on the headwaters of the Edisto River in the Orangeburg District of South Carolina when he was made a prisoner of Kit Neeley, a Tory Major, and detained as such for three weeks. There was an epidemic of smallpox, and with so many sick, he was able to make his escape undetected. He walked many days and by the time he reached a house, he was very ill and knew that he had smallpox. As soon as he was well, he joined Captain Watson's Co. From Watson's Co., he was transferred to that of Captain Taylor, who was killed in a skirmish at Gregg's Ford on the Broad River. During his entire service, he was shifted from one company to another, but was under the direct command of General Francis Marion. Jacob was compelled to abandon his service because of a leg injury.
PENSION: Jacob was allowed a pension under act of Congress of June 7, 1832 (Pension No. S 32149). Jacob's widow received the pension.
RESIDENCE: The Jacob Buzbee family came to St. Clair County, Alabama in 1820. Entered (homestead?) land on Canoe Creek near Ashville.
FAMILY: Wife and four sons. (see family details)
