a. Note:   According to the 1880 census, Vernon Parish, LA, the parents of Anny Harris were born in South Carolina. Anny's sister Margaret Harris, was married to David Lewis Brown, a brother of John Alexander Brown. Anny and Margaret had a brother named Joseph Adams Harris. This information was from old Family Bibles.
  Anny Harris completed a form, "Widow's Application for Pension" on September 20, 1902. It states that her husband entered the service of the Confederate States during the civil war under the name of John A. Brown, at Alexandria, Louisiana in the spring of 1863 as a private in Capt R. W. Martin, 4th La Cavalry under Col Morrison from the state of Louisiana, that he served honorably until the close of war at Natchitoches, Louisiana in April 1865 at which time he was in Company I, as Private; that she was married under the name of Anny Harris on the 6th day of September 1844 by Preacher James Waddel at Attala County, Miss; that her husband died on the 28th day of Dec 1881 at Ward One, Vernon Parish; that she has resided in Louisiana for 43 years. Her husband died "By gradual breakdown of health which lasted for months. He is buried at the Self Grave Yard near his home. Anny listed her post office address as Hardshell, Louisiana. Pension was granted Sep 24, 1902. Monthly Amount: $4.50.
