a. Note:   e 1881 Childrey one where she is shown as a one year old, living at Stowell with her parents and 5 older brothers and one sister (entry 91). By 1891, she is described as an 11 year old scholar living at Westcot Lane with her parents, 3 older brothers (John, Charles and George) and her 2 younger sisters and brother (entry 82). She used to celebrate her birthday on 27th November until she had to apply for her birth certificate for claiming Old Age Pension and it was then that she discovered that her date of birth was in fact 29th November, thus making a unique double - that her granddaughter, Daphne Barnes, had been born on her husband's 59th birthday and Daphne's brother, Alan, had been born on her 66th birthday.
  She did not believe that girls should be educated beyond the statutory school leaving age as "they will only get married and it will be wasted". That view was recognised by Les but not by Ted whose wife, Rose, persuaded him otherwise.
