  In the Chaddleworth Censuses, he was described as an Agricultural Labourer, aged 35, married and living with his wife, Maria, and 4 children (George, James, Harriet and Eliza) in 1841; but employed on the roads, aged 50, and living with Maria and 9 children (Henry, Martha, Hannah, Robert and Alfred having joined the first surviving 4) by 1851 (record 61).
  By 1861 (record 72), he was a Labourer Parish Roads, aged 60, when 5 children were living with him and Maria - Henry, Hannah, Alfred and 2 born since the previous census - Charles and Joseph. In 1871 (record 17), he was described as "formerly ag lab", aged 73, and he and Maria have Robert(who is unmarried) and Charles and his wife, Elizabeth, living with them at Nodmore, Chaddleworth. He had obviously died by 1881 as Maria has then remarried.
Note:   William was baptised on 22 November 1801 in Welford when his surname was spelt
