Notes
a. Note:   ll McKendrick at St Agnes Church, Reading. Their children are Stewart William, who was born 5th October, 1960 and Lorna Lesley McKendrick who was born 21st December, 1965. The family spent many years in Canada then, on their return to England, lived in Pitcroft Avenue then, after Maureen and Bill's separation and divorce, she lived with Stewart and Lorna in Great Knollys Street then Kingsley Close.
Maureen met Ray Brown and they lived at Lordswood, Silchester, where she arranged many family get-togethers at their home. She had always regretted not having pursued a more academic route so, after taking early retirement from Racal, she studied for an Open University degree.
At the time of her cousin, Barbara's funeral, she was having tests. She was operated on soon after Christmas 2000 and Ray gave up work to become her full-time carer in February, 2001 until she went into St Michael's Hospice, Basingstoke early in December that year and died there of cancer - at 4 am on 6th January 2002 . Her funeral service was a non-religious one led by a lay preacher, Elaine, and held at Furze Bush Hotel, Ball Hill, Newbury at 2.30 pm on Wednesday, 16th January, 2002. Her burial was the first experience of an ecological burial for many of the family. The burial place itself - Acorn Ridge ecological burial ground - is very new, having only been granted planning permission the previous year so there had only been three burials prior to Maureen's. Biodegradable coffins are used and an oak tree will be planted
Maureen had lived life to the full. She loved dancing and socialising. At her funeral, there were photos of her in her leathers on a motorbike taken in February 2000 and one of her and Ray taken on the Orient Express in September that year. However, Bill had come up from Dover for the funeral as she had always included him. Her third grandchild - Lorna's first child - had been born only four and a half months before she died. She was at the birth and had cut the umbilical cord as Michael didn't want to.
Note:   Maureen attended George Palmer School, leaving when she was 15. She married Bi
