Note: was listed as the wife of a retiree, 62 years old, residing in Bru, died of a commo illness. Velfjord Parish Records. !NOTE: She was confirmed in 1795 in Somno Parish, then 17 years old and living at the Hombornes Farm. The birth records of Somno, Bronnoy, Velfjord, Bindal-Vassas, and Vevelstad were all searched 1777-1781, only one Christiane Pedersdatter was located: Christiana, daughter of Peder Juul Christensen of Vedal born in 1778 Bronnoy Parish. In Peder Juul Christensen's probate record in 1805, the daughter Christiana is not listed as a living heir. Apparently this daughter died before 1805 and was not the same Christiane Pedersdatter tha we are looking for. !RESEARCH NOTES ON PARENTS OF CHRISTIANA PEDERSDATTER: Finding the parents of Christiana Pedersdatter proved to be the most challening part of this research project. In spite of several strategies and efforts, no connection was made as to the names of her parents or her birth place. As a person had to be confirmed before they could get married, the confirmation records of several of the parishes in this area were searched. Only one likely candidate was identified (Somna Parish Records, p.165): Christiana Pedersdatter of Hombornes farm was confirmed in 1795 at the age of 17. The age in this record fits just right to be the ancestor, but the Somna bygdebok information for the Hombornes farm does not list a Peder having lived there. If this was her, as is suspected, she must have been working as a farm madiden on the Hombornes farm when she was 17 and then later moved to the Bru farm just prior to her marriage. As it seemed likely that she would have been born in one of the neighboring towns and perhaps was orphaned young, the christening records of several of the neighboring parishes were searched for the period 1777-1781: Velfjord, Bronnoy, Somna, Bindal-Vassas, and Vevelstad Parishes. Of these only one entry appeared to fit (Bronnoy Parish Records; FHL #0125060; Vol 5; 1752-1803; p.74) January 25, 1778, Peder Juul Christensen of Vedal's daughter was christened: Christiana. Much information was fathered on the Peder Juul Christensen family, identifying his marriage and the names of his ten children born between 1767-1785. Likewis the dates of his and his wife's death were identified. There was a probate record held for Peder Juul CVhristensen in 1805 which listed his surviving children at time. (Helgeland Probate Records; FHL #0125145; Vol. 78; 1799-1805) Christian Pedersen, 40 years old Niels Pedersen Horn, 35 years old Malene Pedersdatter, unmarried Anna Margretha, married to Lars Thomasen Olsen of Vedal No daughtrer Christiana Pedersdatter was mentioned. Our Christiana Pedersdatte should have still been alive as late as 1840, so if she was a daughter of this Peder Juul Christensen, she should have been listed with the other heirs. It appears rather that the daughter of Pedr Juul Christensen by the name Christian must have died young or at least prior to 1805. Having come up short, the birth records of each of the children of Christiane Pedersdatter were again searched to see if there might be any clues as to brothers or sisters of hers that might be listed as witnesses to these christenings. The only person listed was a Magrethe Pedersdatter, wife of Henrik Hermansen of the Rugas farm in 1802 and 1805. This couple was listed in the 1801 census, at which time Magrethe was 23 years old (the same age as Christiane Pedersdatter). On their marriage record in Velfjord on June 1, 1800 (FHL #0125062; Vol. 10; 1752-1819; p.146) it listed that she was from the Drevland farm. There was also a Johan Christian Pedersen of Storbjorg who was a witness to christening in 1815, but no relationship between him and Christiane Pedersdatte was speculated at this time. Thee was a Peder Joensen living on the Drevland farm between 1780-1796 according to the Velfjord Bygdebok, but nothing more was determined about his possibility at this time. It appears that this is a dead end. Christiane Pedersdatter was probably orphaned as a young child and left to make her own way in life. No obvious relatives were identified. Perhaps by researching further the Peder Joensen family on the Drevland farm, or learning more about the bondsmen on her marriag in 1802 (Johannes Olsen Bru & Arent Donnesen Langjord) it would give additional leads. Also perhaps by searching other parishes in this area for the 1777-1781 period, her birth record could be identified. On the other hand, it might be difficult to prove that this is the right person even if a person matching the birth date was found. Rather than pursue this further at this time, it is suggested that future research be spent on extending the ancestry of the other families outlined in this report.
