Note: Since James always listed himself as J.W. Wilson, there is some problem with his name. In several places, he is listed and John Wesley Wilson and in others he is listed as James Wesley Wilson. . . My family has him recorded as Wes. In the 1860 census of Douglas Co, MO, JW Wilson married to Frankey M list himself as a teamster. . .ejpatterson 1998. In the County of Douglass, State of Missouri military pension records dated June 29, 1900, James W states: I was a Private in Capt. William H. Alsup's company of Douglas county, Missouri Home Guards from sometime in June or July 1861 and served until about October 13, 1861. I do not remember the exact date of enlistment in the above company, but I served in that company and regiment until I was mustered into Company "A" Phelp's Regiment of Missouri Volunteers. I have performed neither Military or Naval service prior to my service in Co. "A" Phelp's Regiment of Missouri Volunteers except the Homeguard service as above stated and I have not served in the Military or Naval service of the U.S. since my discharge from Co."A" Phelps Regiment of Missouri Volunteers, April 11, 1862.
