Eng !Family tradition states James and Sophia are the parents of at least eleven children of which only seven are known. This family lived during time when christenings were not required by law and even though these seven children are listed on the IGI, they are listed as patron submitted not extracted, therefore their records do not show up on the Bisley parish register. Because of gaps in the births of these seven children, it is entirely possible there are more children born to this couple. James and Sophia were married in 1811, child #1 born 1815, child #2 born 1819 christened 1823, Child #3 born 1825, Child #4 born 1828, child #5 born 1831, child #6 born 1834 and child #7 born 1837. On 1851 census only children #6 & 7 were living with parents. There is enough space to have a child born before #1, between 1&2, between 2&3, between 4 & 5. !Early membership records of LDS church has James Crook being baptized in Cheltenham in 1842 and he was ordained to the priesthood in 1843 as a priest. I cannot find the record of him holding the Melchizedek Priesthood, however the records are sketchy and he seems to have been active the entire time. He probably was ordained an Elder.
