a. Note:   An old miner and resident of Moonta Mines - Mr Richard Smith - died at his home Hamley mine on Monday last. He was born in Corn- wall 87 years ago, and came out to seek fortune under the Southern Cross when a young man 25 years of age. He became associated with this district from the early days, where he had practically lived ever since. He had made many friends and acquaintances in his long residence here. He is survived by his wife, with five sons (William, Broken Hill ; Frederick and Joshua, Moonta Mines ; Charles, Yorketown ; Edwin, Adelaide), six daughers (Mesdames B Burnell, Hamley Hill ; T Tonkin, C Burnes, B Hodge, Broken Hill ; F Hales, North Yelta ; A Lathlean, Moonta), 63 grandchildren, and 87 great grandchildren. The total descendatns numbered 152 souls. The funeral took place on Tuesday, Adjutant Thomas, officer in charge of the Moonta Mines Salvation Army corps, conducting the service.
