Note: Josephine age 5, Sarafina Catherine age 4, and Manuel Jr. age 2, aswell as her husband, Manuel Soares. She died either in childbirth orfrom complications of advanced pregnancy, possibly toxemia, at home.She most likely received no prenatal care, as her other babies wereborn at home. She was 25 yrs. old. The unborn baby was buried in herarms according to her daughter, Mary Soares Trutalli Silviera. He wasto be named Frank. There is no mention of the baby on her deathcertificate.
The children were divided among several families to be raised. Marywas to go with Uncle Matt Deniz, brother to Maria, and her godparents,who were childless. Sara cried and held onto Mary, so they took bothgirls in. Elaine was given to her godparents, Manuel and ? who wereconsidered "rich" and would give her a good home, also childless.Manuel, Jr. was given to ? Other than Mary and Sara, the childrenwere not raised to know each other. In high school, Elaine and Saraboth attended Ferndale, but did not talk to each other although theyknew they were sisters, it had no meaning to them. Cousin LorettaAlexandre has a yearbook with their pictures.
