  Folklore has it that Daniel and his family crossed the Cumberland Gap by Ox team and moved to Carter Co, KY, near Carter Caves, near Weslyville, Smoky Valley, in 1858.
  Was in the Civil War, Wagoner, Company D, 22nd Regimental Kentucky Infantry. Joined 24 Oct 1861. Mustered into U.S. Forces on 12 Dec 1861. Promoted to 5" Sergeant on 1 Aug 1862. Declared a deserter effective 19 Jan 1963 at Carolina Landing, Mississippi. Mustered out without returning.
  National Archives pension #598096 - pension request denied due to deserter status.
