a. Note:   Albert Walker Maine died when Flora was 12 years old. Albert and Lois moved to Ulysses from Scotland, Connecticut when Flora was about 6 years old, Ida was born in Ulysses. Several of the Palmers had moved to Nebraska before them. John and Jane Ashley lived about 3 miles from Albert and Lois. Albert was a farmer and was also in the banking business. Albert was a real estate man while living in Scotland, Conn. as well as helping in a bank. After moving to Ulysses he was a banker. He managed the only bank there.
