a. Note:   Olmsted Co. Democrat - 14 Jun 1894 - Douglas - The horse race was quite exciting between Geo. Maxan's grey Horse, Jumbo, and Bill Beiters will known sorrel called bolivar. Jim Peek rode Jumbo, while Bub Boyd handled the ribbons over Bolivar. Jumbo took the lead for the first 40 rods but was passed by Bolivar who came in and claimed the race by half a neck.
