Note: The family story regarding Claude's death is that he was a rounder (drinking and playing cards) so Andrew J. His dad ran him off. He went to town (Sallisaw) and was drinking and on the way home he laid down on rail-road tracks and went to sleep and was run over by a train. Rosa, his mother never forgave Andrew for this. Also, some hold that he won at cards and had a little money, so some of his fellow card players may have hit him in the head and left him on the train-tracks. He was 18 years old at the time of his death. This information was copied from Microfilm account from the Sequoyah County Democrat Vol. VIII Van, Oklahoma June 13, 1913No. 23 CLAUD GIBSON KILL ED BY FREIGHT Claud Gibson the 18 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Gib son of this place was killed Fri day near Gore by being run over by the west bound local leaving out of that city. He was badly mangled, hav ing his left arm and leg severed from his body. It is not posit ively known how he came to be on the tracks, but it is generally supposed that he had set down on the tracks to rest and fell to sleep. He had been working in the Potato crop above Gore and had started to town Friday morning to take the train for his home here, and when last seen was walking down the railroad track in the direction of Gore. He was brought to Vian and buried at the Drake Stand Ceme tery Saturday. NOTE: The Drake Stand Cemetery is located 1/4 mile south of I-40 on Dwight Mission Road, 1 mile West and 1/2 mile South.
