Note: ---Elijah was born in N.C. but did not live there for long before his father moved the family to Georgia around 1804-1805, and then again to Alabama in 1820. Married in Alabama, Elijah and his first wife had five children in that state before moving to Mississippi, where another child was born in 1844. In 1846 he moved his family to The Republic of Texas (which became the State of Texas that same year) where he settled near a number of his in-laws (brothers and sisters of Nancy). Elijah and Nancy had 4 more children in Texas before Nancy passed away. Following the death of his first wife Elijah remarried to Aletha (a.k.a Letha), who herself already had born six children from a previous marriage.
