Notes
a. Note:   MY SISTER'S WEDDING AN INTERVIEW WITH ALLONA (ALBERS) MANTHEI
On Saturday July 29, 2000, Brenda (Schreyer) Wiech and Bonnie (Windhorst) Morse met with Allona (Albers) Manthei at her apartment in Lake City, Minnesota. The purpose was to identify the people in the wedding photo of Henry and Louise (Albers) Windhorst. Allona is one of Louise's two surviving siblings.
Yes, I can identify the people in the picture. I was at that wedding. I was eight years old when my sister Louise married. On the left is Margaret Duden. Next, is "Bill" William Windhorst. Bill and Margaret were dating at the time. In the future they would marry and Bill died very young. Next, are Henry Windhorst and my sister Louise. To the right is my brother "Bill" William Albers. Next, is Henry and Bill's sister Cora. Cora was a dressmaker. She made beautiful dresses for others, including my Confirmation dress. It is possible that Cora made the wedding dresses. The flowers in the picture were made of wax. In those days, the only flowers we had grew out doors. This was an October wedding in Minnesota. Also note, there were no Flower of Ring Bearers in those days.
Let me tell you more. Louise was married in the forenoon on October 8, 1908 at the home of our parents, Henry and Mary (Mueller) Albers. Transportation then was not as it is today. When there was a celebration, people from all around attended with their horse drawn buggies and wagons, and stayed for a longer period of time. Dad butchered a cow and a pig for the party. We prepared and were responsible to feed the guests, dinner, supper, and midnight supper. Additionally, Dad built a bowery for the people to dance all night. How did the people get home after such a celebration? Well, the horses knew there way home.
Indeed I remember my sister's Louise 's wedding, and so many more people and events. It is good, and long past due that someone is writing the Windhorst story. When the memories are gone they are lost if they are not recorded.
A few notes by Brenda in closing. Allona (Albers) Manthei was born December 31, 1899. She is the 7th child of Henry and Mary (Mueller) Albers. Today, at the age of 100 , Allona lives alone, shops every Wednesday, and credits her good health to walking her entire life. Allona has never driven an automobile. Recently. She was featured in the Winter 2000 Mayo Health System Community News, and the January 6, 2000 Lake City Graphic. The Henry & Mary (Mueller) Albers family home is currently the residence of Dennis and Shelia (Goranson) Albers. It is located in section 12 of Zumbrota Township, Goodhue County, Minnesota.
