Note: Occupation: Housewife Burial Cemetery: Fort Snelling, St. Paul, Minnesota ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Resource Source: Madelia Times Messenger Newspaper dated July 18, 1957, Obituaries Funeral services were held Saturday morning, July 13, at 9 o'clock at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Madelia for Mrs. Oscar Samlaska, 57, who passed away the proceeding Wednesday from a heart attack that she suffered while visiting relatives in Hayward, Wisconsin. Father Frank Enright officiated at the last rites and burial was at Fort Snelling cemetery beside the body of her husband. The deceased was born February 21, 1900, in Virginia to Mr. & Mrs. Thomas McCarthy. One June 2, 1919, she was married to Oscar Samlaska and they resided at Lewisville until 1938 when they moved to Madelia. Mr. Samlaska passed away in July 1948. Left to mourn her passing are her children, Robert and Roy of Madelia, Richard of Tacoma, Washington, Dorn of Attica, Indiana, John Gerald in the service in Germany, Mrs. Ray Kaufenberg (Beatrice) of St. Paul, Mrs. Gerald Baker (Grace), Mrs. William Ykema (Kathleen) of LeCenter, Mrs. Leon Malmgren (Monica) of St. James, and Mrs. John Gochanouer (Margaret) of Streator, Illinois; 27 grandchildren and a brother, Robert McCarthy of Des Moines, Iowa. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
