James Shelton 47, 943 Maple Ave., Dayton, Ky., was fatally injured when he was struck by a westbound Chesapeake & Ohio freight train at the Walnut St. crossing Dayton, Ky., Tuesday at 12:45 A.M., as he was hurrying home to the bedside of his wife after summoning a physician. He had been to the office of Dr. P. G. Keeney of Bellevue, Ky. Richard Gunning of the Dayton lifesaving squad answered the call of Dayton police and after working over Shelton, took him to Speers Hospital, where he died shortly afterward. Dr. P. G. Keeney identified the body several hours later. The train was in charge of Engineer George Yates and Fireman C. Schapbell, both of Cheviot, Ohio. Shelton, who was a caretaker at the Dayton High School, is survived by his widow anf four children, Ethel, 16; Fern, 11; Margaret, 9; and Kathlyn, 3. Prof. E. J. Davis, principal said Tuesday that Shelton was quiet and faithful in the discharge of his duties and would be greatly missed in the high school department.
