Then I traced him back to to time of his baptism records in the ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH in MIDDLETOWN, FREDERICK COUNTY, MARYLAND. I have found the surname KARN spelled as KERN, CARN, and CARNES in different Federal Census Records.
  Valentine Kern/Karn's baptism record can be found in the MARYLAND GERMAN CHURCH RECORDS, Volume #2. The birthdate given in those records agree with the Arcadia, Holmes County, Ohio Cemetery Records.
