Notes
a. Note:   Jasper was a twin, born during the Civil War in Coffeyville, KS where his mother went for safety. When his father died in 1880, Isom Wood was appointed his guardian and he lived in Jasper Co., KS until he married. He worked at farming most of his life. After the death of his first wife, he married Laura Malinda Carter and had ten more children. In 1890, the family went by train to Washington Territory where along with a farm, Jasper was a hunter and guide. He was a guide for President Teddy Roosevelt when he came to hunt in the northwest woods during the 1890's. Laura became ill with T.B. and they had to move to a drier climate so in 1900, they moved to southern Colorado. Jasper started an apple orchard outside Canon City and one day when he took a wagon load of apples to town to sell, he met Teddy Roosevelt there with an English Lord. They were going hunting in the rookies and asked Jasper if he would go with them as a guide. Jasper had to turn him down as he had some of his children with him and had to get back home. But he was proud that the president had remembered him. A few years later, he moved his family to El Paso, TX where he lived out his life.
