Note: Lyle grew up in Aurora, Ill. in the house he was born in. He delivered groceries for different stores in his early life. Marshall grocery store was on South River St. in Aurora and he delivered groceries for them for many years. His father, Harry also worked in this store as a clerk. He was 5' 8" tall and 180 lbs. His eyes were blue and he had dark brown hair. It was thin and straight, but he still had a full head of hair at the time of his death. He drove city bus for 25 years for Aurora City Lines. He loved to fish and I remember going to the river on his day off with the whole family. One day, we both caught a turtle at the same time. Usually we caught bullheads. He would clean them and my mother would cook them. He was a hard worker, but never seemed to get ahead. I remember the bill collectors calling or knocking on the door once in a while. He never owned a house and only had two cars that I remember while growing up. Lyle lived at the following addresses: 1927, 432 Concord; 1939, 412 Woodlawn; 1934, 920 Walnut St; 1936, 1015 Walnut St; 1939, 938 Walnut St.; 1941, 565 River St.; 1943, 412 Woodlawn Ave.; 1950, 418 S. Lake St.; 1954, 411 Downer Pl. He was employed at C. W. Marshall Co. as a clerk in 1926 at the age of 16. In 1927 it showed he was a stockman and in 1929 he was a driver, probably delivering groceries. He continued with this employment until 1943 when he went to work for the Aurora City Lines as a Bus Driver. In 1939, the City Directory shows he was working for Ochsenschlager Bakery, but I think this was a part time job. He continued to work for the City Lines until 1975, when he retired.
