Notes
a. Note:   io where eight of his [ten] children were born. He left Canada before his two youngest children, Arthur [b: 6 Jun 1890] and Elizabeth Roy, were born because of the cold winters where it was very hard to make a living. Several of his brothers were already living in the United States. John and Victor lived in Chicago. John later moved to Kansas [in abt 1889; John is found in Rooks Co. Kansas in the 1895 and 1900 censuses] and Xavier bought some land and moved there also. He could not make a living so he left his wife and new baby, Arthur, and seven of his children in Kansas (I believe he took one of his older daughters with him as she shows up on the census records before his wife and other children) and traveled to Portland, Oregon where his wife had some family. The Legaults had told Xavier about the great building boom. He bought some land and built a very nice house which is standing on 7th Street just north of Killingsworth on the east side of the street. It was built in 1890. The census records show Xavier as residing in Cloverdayle, Oregon in 1890. After doing much research at Cloverdale which is Tillamook and finding nothing, I gave up my search until 1987 when I found that Clovdayle was a district in North Portland. Xavier was a very good carpenter and built many nice homes in Portland. He was very cross and didn’t leave very happy memories. Information from a small black book that Francois Xavier kept has all the children’s births. This book is now in the hands of Margie Glass Blevin, granddaughter of Xavier. Margie lives in Washington. [I think Marie is the daughter of Marie Wachsmuth & Melvin Glass which makes her a great granddaughter of Xavier]

Note:   By Marie (Roy) Wilder: Francois “Xavier” Roy was born in Ste-Clet, Canada in 1850. He owned a small saw mill and was a carpenter. He also had a hotel and a saloon in Fournierville, Prescott, Ontar
