Notes
a. Note:   He was called Edward but his middle name, Bernard, was pronounced Ber-nard with the accent on the first syllable. Edward was short, blond and fat unlike his brother Ernest who was tall, dark, and slim. He was named for George Bernard Shaw. Edward attended Millsaps College in Jackson, MS and was ordained a Methodist minister in North MS Conference. He was a Pastor at Gunnison Methodist Church, Bolivar Cty in 1923 and attended the funeral of his son, Marcus Rainey in 1923. Later he moved to Sturgis, MS where he also ministered. In his early days as a minister, he was a circuit rider and went around to different churches in the area to preach because they couldn't afford a full time peacher. The Conference would assign the ministers areas in which to preach. He was also a Mason and a Shriner. According to his death certificate, Edward Bernard died at the age of 71 in Louisville Hospital, Louisville, MS on March 3, 1950 around 3:00 a.m. after being in the hospital 8 days. Reverand B. A. Sharp was the informant (Bernard Augustus). Apparently, he had suffered with the malignancy for about a year prior to his death. His attending physican was Dr. F. E. Thompson, Jr., who had been treating Bernard from 2/22/1950 to 3/3/1950. His body was taken to Daws Funeral Home and was later buried at Bethel Cemetery in Winston Cty, MS. Kitty was still alive at his death living with Bernard in rural Sturgis, Oktibbeha Cty, MS. [OH JOY, OH JOY!!! Boy, do we need to share info!!! Until now, I didn't know who Catherine Ann, wife of Rev. Edward Bernard Sharp was!! Bernard Sharp's grandmother, Chrissie Bagwell Sharp, was my g-grandmother's sister.
