Note: N230 From Leon Meyers: "Also known as Henry Meyers. There is no definite proof that Henry Meyers of Claiborne County, TN is the same Heinrich Meyer listed in the Moravian Archives as a son of Philip Jacob Meyer and Susanna Hilsabeck. It is believed that the connection is true, but a definite link has not been proven. No information has been found to disprove the connection. It appears that the "S" was added to the Meyer surname after 1840, or possibly only by the descendants of Henry. Information from Marilyn Weinrich: Jan. 13, 1792 - Heinrich Meyer born; Jan. 22,1792 - Heinrich Meyer baptized in Bethania, NC; Jun. 21, 1794 - From the will of Jacob Meyer written June 21, 1794: "I lend to my beloved son Phillip Jacob Meyer my large German Bible for my grandchild Henry Meyer to be his own during his life."; 1810 - Bethania Catalog lists Heinrich (Meyer) as being a single brother.; Dec. 4, 1811 - from the "Records of the Moravians in North Carolina" edited by Adelaide L. Fries, M. A. Vol VII, 1809-1822, page 3143 as follows: "Dec. 4, 1811 - The single Br. Heinrich Meyer, of Bethania, has of his own free will attended muster. He must be considered as having cut himself off from the congregation."; Nov. 18, 1814 - Henry Meyer signs as bondsman for the marriage of John Meyers and Mary Stoltz in Stokes County, North Carolina. Here is the only undocumented link, proof that Henry Meyer that signed as Bondsman for John Meyer is the same Henry Meyer that shows up 40 miles away in Grayson County, Virginia on the 1814 tax list and marries Catherine Cupp on June 13, 1815. The signature as bondsman on Nov. 18, 1814 and the signature on his own marriage record on June 13, 1815 appear very similar, but has not been proven to be the same signature. June 13, 1815-Henry Meyer marries Catherine Cup(p) in Grayson County, Virginia. Year 1814-May 9, 1818- Title: Personal Property Tax Lists, 1794-1850 Author: Virginia.
