Notes
a. Note:   OBIT - MT. HOREB MAIL - AT REST - Mrs. Sarah Topper was born in Valdres, Norway where she grew to womanhood. In the year 1865, she was united in marriage to Thore Topper and they remained in the old country until the year of 1867 when they emigrated to America and settled in the town of Blue Mounds where her husband bought a farm where they lived until some time ago, when they retired from actual farm work and moved to the village of Blue Mounds and where she resided until death called her Thursday, February 7th, 1918, at the age of 80 years and 5 days, after about a month's illness. This union was blessed with 8 children, of whom one preceded her to the grave and 6 sons and one daughter survive who, besides her aged husband, mourn the death of a loving mother and wife. The sons are: Martin of Prairie Farm, Wis; Ole, Thore, John, Andrew and Theodore, all of them in the town of Blue Mounds, and the daughter, Mrs. Mary Leacy, Oklahoma. She also leaves 25 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, one brother, Ole Ekern, two sisters, Mrs. M. Christenson of Omaha, Neb. and Mrs. Julia Anderson of Harland, Iowa. Mrs. Topper was one of those whole-souled and hospitable women, a true wife and loving mother. She was a peaceable neighbor and had thus gained a large number of close friends, she was a charter member of the West Blue Mounds church and the Aid Society and leaves many friends and neighbors to mourn her loss. Funeral services were held Thursday at 1:00 o'clock from the home and at 1:30 from the church, her pastor the Rev. E. R. Anderson officiating, speaking words of comfort to the sorrowing relatives and friends, after which the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery by the church. Her six sons acted as pallbearers and carried their loving mother to her last resting place. Peace with her ashes. -- CARD OF THANKS - We extend our gratitude to all the neighbors and friends who assisted us during the sickness of our dear wife and mother, for the flowers, music and singing, also the words of comfort and sympathy spoken by Rev. Anderson. - Thorey Topper and children.
