a. Note:   THORVALD TOPPER - OBIT
  Thorvald Topper, son of the late Thore O. Topper and Sarah Topper, was born August 30, 1870, in the town of Blue Mounds. He was baptized by the Rev. Abraham Jacobson and confirmed in the Perry Lutheran Church by the Rev. Isberg in 1884.
  He spent his early youth in the Blue Mounds and Perry vicinity. He was a carpenter by trade.
  On March 31, 1900, he married Annie Halverson, by the Hendrik Voldahl at Perry. They farmed for about four years near Blanchardville and then purchased the Thore Topper homestead located south of Blue Mounds, remaining there until 1922 when they moved to Mt. Horeb, where they built a new home and he has resided since.
  He was a faithful member of the Mt. Horeb Lutheran church transferring here from West Blue Mounds on December 17, 1922.
  He had been in failing health the past two years and passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 1, attaining the age of 85 years.
  Surviving Mr. Topper are four daughters: Maybell (Mrs. Burdell Kahl), Gladys (Mrs. Henry Oimoen), Blue Mounds; Alpha (Mrs. John L. Johnson) and Florence (Mrs. Wallace Field), Mt. Horeb. He is further survived by nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and three brothers: Ole, Blue Mounds; John, Barneveld; and Andrew, Verona. He was preceded in death by his wife who passed away in 1948; two daughters, Eleanore and Viola (Mrs. Earl Riley), by his parents and three brothers: Olaf, Martin and Theodore and a sister, Mrs. Mary Leacey. Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 4 at 12 p.m. in Mt. Horeb Lutheran church, the Rev. E. H. Anderson officiating. Burial was in the local Lutheran cemetery. The soloist was Vernon Anderson, accompanied by Mrs. Frederick Hanneman at the organ. Pallbearers were Wallace Field, Burdell Kahl, John L. Johnson, Curtis Mickelson, Henry Oimoen and Earl Riley. Numerous In Memoriam gifts were presented.
