a. Note:   Squire, William Edward "Bill" WAUNAKEE/ RACINE - Bill Squire, age 84, of Waunakee/ Racine, died on March 14, 2006, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease, surrounded by loving family. He joined and proudly served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was trained as a radar technician, repairing radios and other electronics while servicing in post-war Europe. Due to this training he was recruited by Wisconsin Telephone, where he worked for 35 years until retirement in 1982. At Wisconsin Telephone, after receiving several promotions he ended his successful career in Milwaukee. Bill and wife, Doris lived in Racine for 35 years before relocating to Waunakee. The family had previously also resided in Madison, Monona, Beloit, and Fort Atkinson. Bill had many passions in life. His greatest love was his wife, Doris, retaining his strong love and memory of her throughout his long struggle with Alzheimer's disease, always brightening at the very sight of her, even as his memory faded of all other people and things. He loved his family and their accomplishments, enjoying nothing more than the time he was able to spend with his children and grandchildren on holidays, vacations and travels. Bill was an avid golfer, loved spending long days fishing and evenings playing cards or dancing with friends and family, especially his lovely wife, Doris. Bill was a member of the nationally acclaimed Racine Dairy Statesmen Barbershop Chorus for more than 20 years, serving in several leadership roles. He was once recognized as "Barbershopper of the Year" for his great contributions. Bill was also involved for many years as a member of the Church Singers Chorus, a second chorus of the same group and for years visited many churches in Southeast Wisconsin entertaining congregations. His love of song and music gave him great solace during his illness. Through his illness, Bill continued to entertain all around him with his wonderful voice. Bill was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Waunakee. He was previously an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Racine, and served as treasurer and church council member for many years. He is survived by his wife, Doris (nee, Topper) Squire; daughters, Cheryl Berg and husband, Dennis Berg of Rancho Murietta, Calif., Sue Evenson of Onalaska, Cindy Muldoon and husband, Michael Muldoon of Deerfield, Ill.; son, Kurt Squire and wife, Wendy Sorenson of Racine; and grandchildren, Benjamin, Melody, Meghan, Kyle, Kelsey and Patricia. He is also survived by brothers, Leonard Squire of Madison, Donald Squire of Stoughton; and sisters, Bertha Duckert of Sun Prairie, Edith Fillner of Palm Springs, Calif., and Laura Moore of Berrien Springs, Mich. He is also survived by many other loving relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. He is predeceased by his brother, Harold Squire of Madison; and his parents, Mabel (nee, Stace) and William Squire of Madison. Visitation will be held at WINN FUNERAL HOME, 5785 Highway Q, Waunakee, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2006. The funeral service will be held after a brief visitation at PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 701 Century Ave., Waunakee, (608) 749-8322), at 10:30 a.m. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the HospiceCare Foundation Inc., 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711, for Alzheimer's disease research to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, Ill., 60601-7633 or to the charitable organizations of your choice. Special thanks are extended to the caring staffs of Mendota Mental Health Institute and Badger Prairie Health Care Center for their assistance to Bill and his family during his long illness.
