Note: MOUNT HOREB/ VERONA - Elmere M. Topper, age 70, of rural Verona, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001, at University Hospital in Madison. She was born on May 7, 1931, in rural Albany, Wis., to Palmer and Mabel (Hauge) Gordon. She married Wesley D. Topper on Sept. 11, 1948, in Mount Horeb. She worked at the former Prange store for 15 years. She loved her family, taking care of children, cooking, canning, sewing and gardening. She also loved to collect bells. She was a member of Mount Horeb Evangelical Lutheran Church. Survivors include her husband, Wesley; her children, Gary (Jane) Topper of Mount Horeb, Gail (John) Fahey of Belleville, Vicki Hughes of Mount Horeb, David Topper of Cazenovia, Jeanne Cona of Missouri, Steven (Beth) Topper of Barneveld, and Janeen (Ken) Lowe of Mount Horeb; her adopted grandson, Kiefer Topper, at home; 13 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Donald (Kathleen) Gordon of Mount Horeb, Verlyn (Jeanne) Gordon of Canyon Country, Calif., and Dale (Kay) Gordon of Davis, S.D. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her daughter, Lori J. Topper. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at MOUNT HOREB EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, with the Rev. Mark Gulbrand officiating. Burial will be at Mount Horeb Union Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at ELLESTAD FUNERAL HOME, 500 N. Eighth St., Mount Horeb.
