Note: BLACK EARTH - Sadie M. Barsness, age 94, of Black Earth, died on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at Heartland Country Village. She was born June 4, 1918, in Riley, Wis., to Ernest and Sophia (Knudtson) Rettenmund. She was united in marriage on May 28, 1939, to Marvin Barsness in Dubuque, Iowa. He preceded her in death in June 1969. She graduated from Middleton High School with high honors. She was an avid sports fan especially watching her sons and grandsons. In her younger years she loved to golf, bowl and also loved to travel and play cards. She worked for 40 years at News Sickle Arrow retiring in 1995. She was a member of Vermont Lutheran Church and of its WELCA, the Black Earth American Legion Auxiliary, and the Black Earth Home Talent Booster Club.
Survivors include her children, Jerald (Sandra) Barness, David M. (Lona) Barness, Suzanne (Ronald) Howard and Wayne (Susan) Barsness; a son-in-law, Ronald Sarbacker, all of Black Earth; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, James (LaVonne) Everson of Black Earth, and Rev. Curtis Everson of Madison; a sister-in-law, Lucille Rettenmund of Madison; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Judith Sarbacker; and her brothers, Russell, Marvin, William, Arthur and Ray Rettenmund.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at the VERMONT LUTHERAN CHURCH in rural Black Earth with the Rev. Chad Christensen officiating. Burial will be at Vermont Lutheran Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at the ELLESTAD CAMACHO FUNERAL HOME, 1710 Center St., Black Earth.
