Note: Dolores Mary (Hefty) Barsness, age 91 of Black Earth, WI passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Hospice Care, Inc in Fitchburg, WI. She was born November 28, 1919 in the Town of Vermont, WI to Adam & Ruth (Bestor) Hefty. As a child, her family moved to Arena where Dolores attended school. She was united in marriage to Orval Wesley Barsness on January 23, 1936 in Mt. Horeb, WI. Three children were born to this union: Edward Dale, Alan Orval, and Virginia Ann. Orval and Dolores made cheese at Halfway Prairie Creamery near Mazomanie for 23 years. Dolores also worked for many years at the Black Earth Nursing Home, (Heartland now). After retirement they attended many Elderhostels, traveled East and stepped in the Atlantic Ocean, and later dipped into the Pacific Ocean while in the State of Washington. Dolores was a member of Vermont Lutheran Church and of its WELCA.
She is survived by her three children: Dale (Katie) Barsness of Mazomanie, Alan (Gloria) Barsness of Verona, Virginia Roberts of Madison, five grandchildren: Tim (Diane) Barsness Todd (Becki) Barsness Trent (Kathy) Barsness Jennifer (Richard) Engbrecht Brenda (Matthew) Goble 15 great grandchildren: Payton, Caleb, Johnathan, Drew, Molly, Micah, Joseph, Josiah, Hudson, Elijah, Emmaline, Avery, Ford, Demond,D'Shawn, Demond, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Orval on August 23, 2002, two sisters and brothers-in-law: Janette (William) Schmitt and Mildred (George) Koller, a brother and sister-in-law: Adam (Dorothy) Hefty, Jr. and an infant brother, John Edward Hefty.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the Vermont Lutheran Church, 9886 Vermont Church Rd., Black Earth, WI 53515 with Rev. Chad Christensen officiating. Inurnment will be at the Vermont Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 AM till 10:50 AM on Saturday at the church. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, tributes in memory of Dolores may be directed to Vermont Lutheran Church at the above address or Hospice Care, Inc. 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg, WI 53711. A special thanks to Dr. Janelle Hupp, MD and her staff, Arena EMT's, and St. Mary's Hospital ICU Staff. Also, special thanks to Hospice Care, Inc and its staff and those who cared for and comforted her while she resided in room 19.
