a. Note:   Barsness, Gloria Doris (Schmid) PRAIRIE DU SAC Gloria D. Barsness, age 82, died on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at HospiceCare Inc. in Fitchburg. She was born at Dr. Buckner Hospital in Mount Horeb on April 7, 1927, the daughter of the late Peter J. and Julia (Thompson) Schmid. She was united in marriage to Harvey O. Barsness on June 5, 1945. The couple lived on the family farm in Vermont Township, prior to moving to Mount Horeb in 1951. Gloria retired from Ingleside Nursing Home in 1986, and the couple moved to Prairie du Sac in 1994. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Harvey, whom she dearly loved and was her best friend; a daughter, Sharon (Keith) Schulz; two grandchildren, Mike Adler and Shelly Adler (friend, Mike); five great-grandchildren, Courtney (fiance, Kevin), Carly, Danielle, Evan and David; a great-great-grandchild, Ryland; a sister, Pearl Magnuson; her pet dogs that she and Harvey had over the years, and who always traveled with them, Bootsie, Buffy, Shon and Maggie; and other relatives and many friends. A memorial service will be held at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, 251 Water St., Sauk City, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, with Pastor Dan Odden officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, one hour prior to the service. Burial at Mt. Horeb Union Cemetery in Mt. Horeb, Dane Co., Wisconsin.   OBIT - Gloria D. Barsness, age 82, died on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at HospiceCare, Inc. in Fitchburg. She was born at Dr. Buckner Hospital in Mt. Horeb on April 7, 1927, the daughter of the late Peter J. and Julia (Thompson) Schmid. She was united in marriage to Harvey O. Barsness on June 5, 1945. The couple lived with Harvey's parents and farmed on the family farm in Vermont Township, prior to moving to Mt. Horeb in 1951. Gloria worked for Midthun Feed Mill as a bookkeeper. She then accepted a job as the head-cook in the Mt. Horeb Public Schools and worked there for many years. She also worked as a clerk/typist in the stolen cars department at Hilldale State Farm. When Ingleside Nursing Home opened, she accepted a job as a Dietary Supervisor. She then took courses at MATC and graduated with a degree as a C.D.M. and continued working at Ingleside, retiring in July 1986. In Dec. 1994 Gloria and Harvey moved to Prairie du Sac. Gloria and Harvey and their pet dogs, enjoyed the Minocqua and Woodruff area and spent a lot of their time boating and fishing on the lakes in the area. They loved to take rides looking for deer and bear and enjoyed the scenery that nature provided. Gloria enjoyed traveling anywhere, the Rocky Mountains, Branson, Yellowstone, the Black Hills, LasVegas, and Oklahoma, just to name a few. She really enjoyed casino-hopping wherever there was one, especially Ho-Chunk; and also enjoyed the pond full of fish in their backyard. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Harvey, whom she dearly loved and was her best friend; a daughter, Sharon (Keith) Schulz; two grandchildren, Mike Adler and Shelly Adler (friend Mike); 5 great-grandchildren, Courtney (fiance Kevin), Carly, Danielle, Evan, and David; a great,great-grandchild, Ryland; a sister, Pearl Magnuson; and her pet dogs that she and Harvey had over the years, and who always traveled with them, Bootsie, Buffy, Shon and Maggie; other relatives and many friends.
