Notes
a. Note:   from a book on the history of Chippewa and Lac qui Parle counties in Minnesota, pages 386-387 HALVOR H. HOBERG Halvor H. Hoberg, deceased, was one of the well-known and prominent farmers in the Ten Mile Lake township in Lac qui Parle Co. He was born in Norway on November 11, 1841, being the son of Halvor Osmonson and Berit Johnsdatter, both of whom were natives of that country. It was there that the father and mother were educated, grew to manhood and womanhood and were married. The mother died in the land of her nativity, but the father joined his son in Wisconsin, and came with him to Farmington, Minnesota where he died. Halvor H. Hoberg received his education in Norway and there resided until he was eighteen years of age, when he came to the United States. He had taught one term of school in his native country before he came to America. On his arrival to this country he came direct to Wisconsin where he engaged in teaching. In addition to his school work he was most active in the religious work of the community and served as a deacon in three churches. He was also interested in agricultural pursuits and owned a farm of eighty acres. He was prominent and active in all social and civic life of the locality. He was recognized as a man of much ability, and his advice was often sought on matters of interest to the township and the Co.. On January 3, 1860, Halvor H. Hoberg was united in marriage to Olea Ericksdatter Neibraughton (spelled Nybrøten), a native of Norway and the daughter of Erick Anderson and Kari (Gueldatter Neibraughton) Icebacke (spelled Eidsbakkene), both of whom were natives of Norway. Mr. and Mrs. Icebacke came to the United States in 1853 and located in Dane Co., Wisconsin, the father dying many years ago. The mother and widow removed to South Dakota where she made her home with her daughter, Anne Marie Helista (spelled Hillestad), and there she lived and where she died some years ago. The family were prominent in the community in which they lived and took an active interest in the social and religious activities of the locality. Halvor H. and Olea Hoberg, after their marriage in Wisconsin, removed to Farmington, Minnesota, where they lived for nine years. Here they rented a large farm and were successful. They later came to Lac qui Parle Co., where they purchased the farm where the son Henry now lives in Ten Mile Lake township. The farm was developed and improved by Mr. Hoberg and became known as one of the best in the township. Here he engaged in general farming and stock raising until December 1911, at which time he retired from the activities of farm life and moved to Boyd, where he built a beautiful home, and here he lived until his death on March 15, 1915. Mr. Hoberg always took much interest in the civic life of the community in which he lived. While living in Wisconsin he served as assessor of his township for a number of years, and on coming to Ten Mile Lake township he again served in the same position here. He served as treasurer of the Boyd United Lutheran Church and took much interest in the work of the church. To Mr. and Mrs. Hoberg have been born the following children: Bertha, Henry, Erick, Charles, John, Anton, Henry, Ole and Mollie. Mrs. Hoberg now lives in Boyd where she takes an active interest in church work.
