Note: OBIT - Matt C. Eggum, 79, Mount Horeb (Wisconsin), died Thursday, Dec. 8, 1988, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, following a long illness. He was born on November 19, 1908, in Mount Horeb, and was a son of the late Herman and Bertha (Jevne) Eggum. A graduate of Mount Horeb High School, he also attended Lawrence College, Appleton. On June 2, 1934, he was married to the former Olga Topper and continued to make his home in Mount Horeb. Mr. Eggum was a partner in the Eggum and Johnson Lumber Company for 42 years, retiring in 1975. His memberships included, member of the Mount Horeb Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lions Club, of which he was a charter member and past president; Verona Masonic Lodge No.294 F & AM; Madison Scottish Rite Bodies; Dane Co. Historical Society; Dane Co. Sportsmen's League; and was a former Boy Scout Leader; an avid fisherman and hunter; and was a lover of nature. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Heidi Eggum, and a brother, Joseph Eggum. Surviving are his wife, Olga; a son, Bruce Eggum, Bonduel; and two grandsons, Ben, Manitowoc, and Brad, Shawano. Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 12, in the Mount Horeb Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Bill Redman officiating. Entombment was in the Mount Horeb cemetery. The Ellestad Funeral Home in Mount Horeb served the family. Pallbearers were David Hook, Bob Larson, Peter Riphahn, Forest Johnson, Jack Peterson, and Dean Tvedt; Honorary pallbearers were Carl Buechner, Jerold Moon, Russell Linnell, lrvin Bakken, Bud Knudtson, Bert Roberts, and John Wittwer.
