a. Note:   Helen Agnes Topper, 96, Merrill, passed away peacefully Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, at the Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice House, Wausau. Helen was born August 17, 1910, in the town of Blue Mounds, to Oline (Odness) and Ole Topper. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed as a youth at West Blue Mounds Lutheran Church, and was a high school graduate. On Nov. 26, 1931, she married Milo Topper in Winona, Minn.
  She was a charter member of the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Rothschild, serving on the Altar Guild, Ladies Circle and an active member of the church. Since moving to Merrill in 1960, she became a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. She joined Sara Circle and became close friends with many of the members at Our Saviours as she had with many good friends at Mount Calvary. Helen was a homemaker and maintained beautiful flower gardens. She loved to read and worked with both the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. She loved helping others and guided many in her life, opening her heart and home to them.
  Helen is survived by her daughter, Julie (Patrick) Szulczewski of Merrill; her son, Clark (Nilah McDonald) Topper of Scituate, Mass.; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, the Dodd family and a host of dear friends. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Milo; and five sisters, four brothers, and special aunts and uncles.
  Thank you one and all who knew her for your kind friendship. She will be missed by all and remembered for her love. She is now at peace with her Lord. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Merrill. Burial will be in Mount Horeb Union Cemetery, Mount Horeb. Visitation will be from noon until the time of services Thursday at the church.
