Notes
a. Note:   OBIT - Oline Kristofferson Odness was born in Land, Norway, December 14, 1872. She was a daughter of Christ and Olea Odness. She was baptized in the Fluberg Church at Land, Norway. At the age of eight she emigrated to America together with her parents and was confirmed in the Springdale Lutheran Church by the Rev. O. P. Syftestad. She was united in marriage to Ole Topper on February 18, 1891 by the Rev. Henrik Voldal. They have devoted their life to farming in the community of Blue Mounds, retiring to the village of Blue Mounds in 1929. Mrs. Topper has been in failing health for a long time and passed away at her home early Tuesday morning, November 28, 1944. She was 71 years, 11 months and 14 days old at the time of her death. She is survived by her husband, four sons and six daughters. The sons are: Clarence of Verona, John of Blue Mounds, Melvin of Arena and Otto of Middleton. The daughters are: Selena (Mrs. Alfred Erickson, Blue Mounds; Mable (Mrs. Walter Barron), Marshfield; Alice (Mrs. Fred Miller Blue Mounds; Helen (Mrs. Milo Topper) of Wausua; Olga (Mrs. Matthew Eggum) of Mt. Horeb and Minnie (Mrs. Marvin Roberts of Arena. She is also survived by four sisters: Mrs. Julia McKinley and Mrs. Bessie Leary, Mt. Horeb; Mrs. Albert Mickelson, Arena; and Mrs. James Olson of Blue Mounds. She is further survived by 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents and a son, Olaf, who died in infancy at 8 months. Mrs. Topper was a pious and God-fearing mother who reared her children in the fear and admonition of the Lord. She was an active pioneer member of the West Blue Mounds Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid Society which, a few years ago, bestowed upon her a life certificate in the W. M. F. of the Norwegian Lutheran Church of America. In the year 1941, the West Blue Mounds congregation honored Mr. and Mrs. Topper upon the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary with an anniversary service and dinner at the church. Mrs. Topper was patient in suffering and wistfully awaited the hour of death, calling upon the name of the Lord. In her passing her family, her church and community has lost a devout and consecrated wife and mother, a loyal member and kind neighbor and friend. In her passing we pause with Job of old and confess, "The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord." And blessed be her Christian memory. Her funeral took place Friday, December 1, at 1:30 p.m. from her home and at 2 o'clock from West Blue Mounds Lutheran Church, her pastor, the Rev. E. R. Anderson officiating. Mrs. Leland Arneson and Mrs. Harland Arneson sang two beautiful songs at the church services which attracted an audience that filled the church to capacity and was carried by loud speaker to an overflow audience in the church basement. The pallbearers were: Andrew Drevdahl, John Boley, C. M. Arneson, Thorwald Topper, John Frame and Anton Dokken. In memoriam gifts totalled $107.75. CARD OF THANKS - We wish to express our sincere appreciation to all who have in any way shown their love and sympathy during the illness and death of our beloved wife and mother. Especially to Rev. Anderson for his ministering during her illness and for the funeral service to Mrs. Harland Arneson and Mrs. Leland Arneson for their beautiful singing; to Mr. Gesme for his efficient services; and to the pallbearers. All shall be kept in grateful remembrance. - Ole Topper and Family
