Note: Obituary - Melvin Topper, age 80 of 3806 Atwood Avenue, died unexpectedly on Saturday, January 1, 1983, at home. He was born July 16, 1902, in Blue Mounds, Wisconsin, where he farmed for a number of years and also had lived in Deerfield, Wisconsin, and had been a Madison resident for the past 19 years. He was employed as a Hod Carrier and Plasterer for the Fix Brothers, retiring in 1971. He was a member of the Construction and General Laborers Union Local 646. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Phillip and Barbara Baker of Madison; three grandchildren, Rebecca Lynelle, Shane Andrew, Jennifer Marie; five sisters: Mrs. Selena Erickson of Madison, Mrs. Alice Miller of Blue Mounds, Mrs. Matt (Olga) Eggum of Mr. Horeb, Mrs. Helen Topper of Rothschild and Mrs. Marion (Minnie) Roberts of Barneveld, Wisconsin; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irma in 1980; his parents, Lena and Ole Topper; four brothers: Olaf, Clarence, John and Otto; and a sister, Mrs. Mabel Barron. Funeral services will be held at ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2165 Linden Avenue at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 5 with the Reverend Gilbert Splett officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
