a. Note:   Hagen was the name of the farm her father purchased. The Vermont Church cemetery in Vermont, Wisconsin has many Olsons buried in the row directly behind Otelia (Erickson) and her husband Herman Barsness. In records, Mary's surname was Evenson; other times Olson.
  OBIT - Mt. Horeb Mail newspaper, July 28, 1927 edition - Mrs. Mary Erickson was born March 3, 1847 in N. Aurdal, Valders, Norway. At the age of 4 she immigrated to America with her parents Ole and Berit Hagen, who are numbered among the charter members of Vermont Lutheran Church. On May 23, 1872 she married Andrew Erickson and settled in the town of Vermont. To this union 8 children were born, all of whom survive their parents. Mr. Erickson died January 6, 1920. Mrs. Erickson suffered a stroke four years ago next October, which left her an invalid. Two weeks ago she suffered a relapse, and passed away Sunday, July 24th at 4 p.m. She was at the time of her death 80 years, 4 months and 20 days old. Her children cared for her tenderly until God called her home. She is survived by her eight children, namely, Mrs. Ida Bakken (Ole), Vermont; Bertha (Mrs. Otto Mitmoen), Mt. Horeb; Clara (Mrs. Ole Stensrud), Madison; Otelia (Mrs. Herman Barsness), Black Earth; Alfred, Mt. Horeb; Alma (Mrs. William Witte), Freeport, lllinois; Melvin, Freeport, Illinois; Amelia (Mrs. Elmer Mickelson), Vermont. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Funeral took place on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. from the home of her daughter Mrs. Otto Mitmoen of Mt. Horeb followed by funeral services at Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church of which the deceased was a faithful member. Her pastor, the Rev. E. R. Anderson, officiated. The funeral was largely attended by sympathizing friends and relatives. The pall bearers were her five grandsons Orlando Bakken, Leslie Witte, Bert and Ralph Barsness, Russell Stensrud, and one nephew Banford Olson. The flower girls were her granddaughters Evelyn Mickelson, Ruby Barsness, Ida Witte and Emma Bakken. Blessed be her memory.
