Notes
a. Note:   In 1850 EDNA COLLINS (wife of ZACHARIAH COLLINS, SR.). age 65 born in North Carolina, USAwas living with: NANCY (probably her step-daughter), age 32, born in Kentucky, USA; EDNA (her daughter), age 27. born in Kentucky, USA; SILAS, age 15, born in Kentucky, USA(farmer); M. (female), age 12, born in Kentucky, USA; E. J. (female), age 11, born in Kentucky, USA: JOHN, age 8, born in Kentucky, USA, SARAH, age 6,born in Kentucky, USA; ISAAC C., age 5, born in Kentucky, USA; L. A. (female), age 3, born in Kentucky, USA(1850 Census of Adair County, Kentucky, USA, household (77)).
The identity of the parents of these children is unknown at this time SILAS was 15 years old and the younger EDNA was 27 years old. It is doubtful that EDNA is the mother of SILAS because she would have been 12 years old when he was born. It is logical to assume that NANCY was the mother of at least some of these children. It was common practice for first cousins to marry first cousins. Without more information, it is premature to label these children as illegitimate simply because they had the last name of COLLINS.
For purposes of this genealogy, the children living in EDNA's household are assumed to be the children of NANCY.
