Note: Arthur Verl Prater, a 29 year employee of Washington State University, died of cancer at his home Saturday. He was 68. Prater was a groundskeeper at WSU from 1949 until retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Palouse Church of the Nazarene. He was born to G. Wiley and Zula Tempero Prater on Oct 13, 1915, near Palouse. He attended the Four Mile and Kamiak country schools and Potlatch High School. He was married to Margaret McLain on Oct 13,1940 in Palouse. The couple lived in Palouse. He went to Portland in 1942 where he worked in a shipyard for a short time. After his return to Palouse, he farmed and worked for Wallace Grain and Pea Company, before his employment at WSU. Survivers include his wife at the family home, two daughters, Sharon Knight of Loon Lake, WA and Doris Kayser of Viola, 2 brothers, Donald of Lewiston, and Frank of Lompoc, CA and 6 grandchildren. A brother Vernon and a sister Leona Shawgo died previously. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Palouse, WA.
He died of prostate cancer.
