a. Note:   SHELBYVILLE - Benjamin Askins, 91, of Shelbyville, formerly of Cowden, died 9:28 p.m. Wednesday (April 7, 2004) in Shelbyville Manor. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Shelbyville, with visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Gallagher Chapel Cemetery, Shelby County. Memorials: St. Jude Children's Hospital. Mr. Askins was born May 9, 1912, in Shelby County, the son of William and Isabelle Davis Askins. He was a retired farmer and employee of the village of Cowden and Green Thumb. He was affiliated with the Fellowship Baptist Church. He married Irene Polley Wright on Dec. 24, 1949, in Mode. Surviving are his wife; sons, James Askins of Cowden; Glen Wright of St. James, Mo.; daughters, Sheila Nohren and Daleen Geisinger, both of Shelbyville; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. Published in the Decatur Herald & Review 4/9/2004
