Note: [reubenaskins3.ged] 1810 Monongalia Co. VA census shows 1 male over 45, 1 female over 45; 4 males under 10, 2 mal es 10-16, 1 female under 10. So 6 sons and a daughter born before 1810. But in 1860 Shelb y Co. IL Circuit Court Petition for Partition, 7 sons are named--Abram, Robert, Jesse, Jonath an, George, John, and William, the last 3 being deceased at that time. Nancy Kile and Rebecc a Sorden are named daughters. My guess is that Jonathan was the oldest and was out of the ho me in 1810, although he was probably only 17 or 18, and probably not married. By 1812, Reuben has 2 white males over 16, so one son is now 16. In 1816 Reuben and Elizabeth Askins sold 100 acres on Little Sandy Creek in Monongalia Co. V A for $600, and by 1821 this family is in Knox Co. Ohio land records. 1820 census-- Reuben does not appear in either VA or OH; maybe he was moving and missed it. 1830 Knox Co. OH census, Bloomfield Twp, shows 2 males 20-30, 1 male 50-60; 1 female 5-10 , 1 female 15-20 and 1 female 50-60. 1840 Shelby Co. IL census (p 197) shows Reuben Askins with 2 males and 1 female 10-15 an d 1 male and 1 female 60-70. So they still had 3 teenagers at home! But these look like gra ndchildren, since they don't show in the under 10 age range in 1830. Other nearby Askins wer e George and Jonathan, both in the 40-50 age range, and Samuel 20-30. Who is Samuel's father ? 1850 Shelby Co. IL census (p 165 house #1046 in Wakefield) shows Rubin Askins 66 VA living wi th Samuel Swordan 30 Ohio and wife Rebecka 35 VA. Next door was Abraham and Susannah Askins . Not far away was Samuel and Susannah Askins. I don't know how Samuel is related to Reuben. The Shelby Circuit Court Petition for Partition filed in 1860 lists Reuben's children and i n the case of the 3 who are deceased, their children, and specifies the portion of his estat e that each is to receive. Some are out of state and others' whereabouts are not known, an d might be deceased. Here is the copy that I received of this document, with my comments i n brackets [ ]: SHELBY CIRCUIT COURT, A.
