Note: Earl F. "Doc" Legge, 95, of Pontiac, formerly of Hammond, died at 11:15 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 2, 2008) at Livingston Manor, rural Pontiac. His graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hammond Cemetery, Hammond, with Pastor Lon Alderman officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Hammond Methodist Church, Hammond. Martin-Burke Funeral Home in Pontiac, is handling the arrangements. Earl was born June 26, 1912, in Needmore, Ind., a son of Clyde S. and Lillian Hawley Legge. He married Genevieve Askins on June 1, 1937, at Terre Haute, Ind. She preceded him in death in April of 1978. Survivors include one daughter, Lavonne Ping, Pontiac; three grandchildren, Julie (Lon) Alderman, Dennis (Connie) Ping and Amy (David) Petersen; five great-grandchildren, Gina Brooks, Matthew Peterson, Jessica Ping, and Kassidy and Katie Alderman; two brothers, Robert Legge, Uniondale, Ind., and William Legge, Normal. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister. Earl was educated in Hammond schools, was a graduate of Hammond High School and–;attended Illinois Wesleyan University for one year. He was employed at A.E. Staley Mfg. Company in Decatur, from which he retired. He was a member of the Hammond Methodist Church, Hammond.
